Where Talent and Vision Create the Future

The Charleston County School of the Arts High School Orchestra is part of a rigorous academic and performing arts learning community cultivating leaders of the future.  The orchestra is made up of students from all over Charleston County; Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley, James Island and the peninsula. Students in the orchestra have chosen strings as their art major and receive 100 minutes of instruction on their instrument every day. All orchestra courses carry honors weight.

Courses that are offered at the present time are Honors String Orchestra (where students meet within their grade level for more individualized instruction), Honors Symphony Orchestra (an ensemble that includes wind instruments, brass instruments and percussion instruments along with the string section), and Music Technology  (a class for students who are interested in how the recording studio works and learning computer music skills).    Future plans for courses include an Honors Chamber Ensemble (a class for two string quartets) and a Senior Thesis Class (a class to provide seniors with time to practice and put together a Senior Thesis performance or Senior Thesis teaching project).

Students interested in attending the School of the Arts and majoring in strings should contact the school and set up an appointment for an audition. The orchestra has openings for all instruments in all grade levels. For more information, please contact Ms. Sarah Fitzgerald.
